My Marvel Phase Two box set arrived yesterday! 😀 It’s 11 days late, but at least it arrived. (Plus Amazon gave me a $10 goodwill refund because of the delay in shipping, so I didn’t mind all that much.) I pre-ordered it way back in July 2015, as I’ve been waiting for Disney to come up with a Phase Two package ever since I bought the Phase One box set two and a half years ago. Phase Three will be a four-year wait, since we have to wait till after Avengers: Infinity War – Part II comes out in 2019.
(I wrote this in 2015, so this was before Marvel decided to drop the Part 1 & 2, and call Avengers 4 something else. Remember all the internet speculation about the title of the movie up until the first trailer for Endgame dropped?)
Marvel Phase One Limited Edition Box Set
Here’s how my Marvel Phase One box set looked when I unboxed it back when it first arrived. It cost me US$158.47 when I bought it in April 2013. Unfortunately, it costs about 3 times as much now, since they’ve stopped producing it.
Included in Phase One are the Blu-ray versions of:
- Iron Man
- The Incredible Hulk
- Iron Man 2
- Thor
- Captain America: The First Avenger
- The Avengers
- Plus a top-secret Bonus Disc which includes the making of the Avengers end-credits Shawarma scene (filmed on the night after the Avengers premiere), never-before-seen deleted scenes, extended scenes, featurettes, animatics and more from each film
Marvel Phase Two Amazon Exclusive Edition Box Set
And here’s my Phase Two box set, which I received in December 2015. The highlight is the Orb of Morag and Infinity Stone from Guardians of the Galaxy. There’s also a folder like the one Natasha passed Steve at the end of Captain America: The Winter Soldier; except instead of Bucky’s file, this one contains a mishmash of memorabilia from the Phase Two movies. And of course, all the movies from Iron Man 3 to Ant-Man in Blu-ray.
The box set cost me US$174.99. I pre-ordered it at US$200+ in July 2015, but Amazon had a price guarantee where they’d give me the lowest price if it dropped anytime before the actual release date. Including the US$10 refund, the final price was US$164.99. Which is a steal, since now it costs twice as much as it’s limited edition.
Films in Phase Two:
- Iron Man 3
- Thor: The Dark World
- Captain America: The Winter Soldier
- Guardians of the Galaxy
- Avengers: Age of Ultron
- Ant-Man
- Plus a bonus disc which includes never-before-seen deleted & extended scenes, the complete set of Marvel One-Shot films and Commentary, From Here to Infinity: Phases 2 and 3 of the M.C.U., Tag Scenes: A Making-Of, Screen Test with Chris Pratt and Dave Bautista and more
Marvel Phase Three box set?
I’ve been searching on Amazon periodically since Spider-Man: Far from Home (which is the last of Phase Three) came out on home entertainment, hoping for news of a Marvel Phase Three limited edition box set, but no luck yet.
Phase Three movies include:
- Captain America: Civil War
- Doctor Strange
- Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
- Spider-Man: Homecoming
- Thor: Ragnarok
- Black Panther
- Avengers: Infinity War
- Ant-Man and the Wasp
- Captain Marvel
- Avengers: Endgame
- Spider-Man: Far from Home
I’ve been waiting 4+ years to own these movies. :S I hope there’ll be one! And that it includes a high quality collectible like the Infinity Gauntlet. (The orb of Morag felt kinda cheap and plasticky.) I would hate for my collection to be incomplete, even though Blu-ray may be going the way of the VCD and VHS, now that streaming is on the rise. ?
