‘Transformers: Age of Extinction’ review: A film that defies all attempts to label it

There are blockbusters, and there are *BLOCKBUSTERS* — the latter arriving in theatres screaming themselves hoarse with whizzbang special effects and ostentatious, ubiquitous publicity campaigns. Transformers: Age of Extinction falls firmly on the extreme end of the latter category, and will probably remain the end point of the scale until Michael Bay tops it, once again, with the untitled-but-practically-guaranteed Transformers 5. For now, it's safe to say I have never seen a louder, more epilepsy-inducing, incoherent film in my life.

‘Edge of Tomorrow’ review (with bonus ‘Chef’ and ‘Maleficent’ reviews): LOVE ‘Edge of Tomorrow’. Liked ‘Chef’. ‘Maleficent’ is ok.

Here's another massively overdue review bonanza. Unfortunately, I'm always watching things much faster than I write about them, so sometimes it's stale news by the time I post them.

‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ review: Loved the movie, but didn’t *LOVE* the movie

'X-Men: Days of Future Past' is great, though it couldn't live up to my sky high expectations. Mostly because I hate what they did with younger Erik (Michael Fassbender).

‘Divergent’ review: Watch for hot actor

Going into Divergent, I had very little idea what to expect. While nothing beats Twilight for terrible story (that still inexplicably earned hundreds of millions of dollars and literally devil-spawned four equally successful movie sequels), Divergent had a convoluted-sounding plot that made me never want to read the books, so I was skeptical of how good the movie could be.

‘Non-Stop’ review: Air Vigilante

If you like conspiracy thrillers like Flightplan and Unknown, and action movies like Taken, you'll surely like Non-Stop, which melds all these genres in a film put together specially for Liam Neeson, the star of the latter two movies. A Hitchcockian thriller set in the confines of an airplane, Non-Stop keeps you on the edge of your seat wondering whodunit, whydunit, howdunit, what-on-earth-is-it, and coming up with some fairly ludicrous theories along the way in your bid to preempt the reveal.

‘Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit’ review: Run-of-the-mill, but not unenjoyable

Some Russians living in the past are planning the collapse of the U.S. economy, and it's up to a brilliant CIA analyst to stop them. If this plot sounds familiar, it's because every other action movie ever made, save those about unstoppable vehicles or sci-fi elements (and sometimes not even then), has it, give or take a few minor changes: the nationality of the villains, the "thing" they want to collapse, the government organisation of the hero's vocation.

‘The Expendables 2’ review: A big old ’80s-flashback action cheese-fest

Ah, the nostalgia, watching action stars of the '80s stage a comeback! Saw The Expendables 2 last night, and I couldn't stop laughing at all these hulking, muscled men, tendons popping out, grunting through their lines. Their cheesy lines. It's so rife with cliches, glaring showdowns, ridiculously overblown action, bad plot devices and one-note, unspeakably evil villains that it's essentially one big cheese-fest poking fun of itself.
