Movies Coming Soon: September 2017

September looks like a really boring month. I'm looking at the whole list of films that are coming out and feeling a sense of profound disinterest in almost everything being shown. It is slightly better than August, in that there are three movies I am sort of interested in, whereas I only had two last month, but the movie lineup just looks so unappealing to me. And the trend continues for the rest of the year.

‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ review: Darker and more emotional

The general consensus among critics seems to be that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 isn't as good as the first one. I'm not so sure about that. The first movie was the oddball, weird kooky cousin of the other Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, and I did like it, but not as fondly as say, Thor or Ant-Man, or even Doctor Strange. Vol. 2 feels darker and more emotional than the first, though it still retains its quirkiness. If not for the underlying sinister tones of the film, I would have preferred it to the first. As it is, their pros and cons balance them out for me.

‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2’ review: As always, the book is better than the movie

'Mockingjay - Part 2' follows the book pretty much faithfully -- except for all the subtext that they could not (dare not?) translate to screen, which Darren Franich from Entertainment Weekly explains in a brilliant analysis.

Movies Coming Soon: October to December 2015 – Part 1

This post is more than a month late, because I'm a procrastinator of the highest order. I'm the archbishop of the priesthood of procrastinators. My inertia got so bad that I finally decided if I wanted to get it out at all, I should just buckle down and do it, so here it is.

‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1’ review: A faithful but lacking adaptation

'Mockingjay - Part 1' is as true to the book as it can possibly be, even with the addition of Effie in District 13, but it feels a little bland without Katniss' internal monologues and all the other details that brought flavour to the story.

‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ review: Loved the movie, but didn’t *LOVE* the movie

'X-Men: Days of Future Past' is great, though it couldn't live up to my sky high expectations. Mostly because I hate what they did with younger Erik (Michael Fassbender).
