Instant reaction post: “Game of Thrones” S4, Ep3 ‘Breaker of Chains’

Sansa and Littlefinger in ‘Breaker of Chains’

Littlefinger is getting creepier and creepier. Can Sansa sense that he is the pervert that he is now wholly appearing to be?

Margaery is better off with Joffrey dead, and she knows it. I don’t understand why she is so desperate to be queen above all these concerns.

Tywin Lannister teaching Tommen how to rule besides Joffrey’s not-yet-fully-cooled body is full of both wisdom and irreverence that I must heartily applaud, even though he is manipulating him for his own gain.

And while I appreciate that nobody except Cersei wept over Joffrey’s death, Jaime raping his sister beside his funeral alter crossed the line twice over. I thought he was better than that.

Interestingly, this is what Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (who plays Jaime) says about it in an interview with The Daily Beast:

“To understand the psychology behind it, and why he goes as far as he does, was really difficult,” says Coster-Waldau. “To me it became, When does physical desire take over? It’s one of those things where he’s been holding it back for so long, and then out of anger he grabs her, and instinct takes over, and he lets loose. He says, I don’t care. He wants to not care. He has to connect to her, and he knows this is the most f–ked up way for it to happen, but in that moment, he knows it’s all he can do. It’s an act of powerlessness.”

“There is significance in that scene, and it comes straight from the books — it’s George R.R. Martin’s mind at play. It took me awhile to wrap my head around it, because I think that, for some people, it’s just going to look like rape. The intention is that it’s not just that; it’s about two people who’ve had this connection for so many years, and much of it is physical, and much of it has had to be kept secret, and this is almost the last thing left now. It’s him trying to force her back and make him whole again because of his stupid hand.”

A spin-off of The Adventures of Arya and the Hound please! If only this particular one didn’t end so shittily and ungratefully. :S

Sam’s concern for Gilly is thoughtful, but why on earth would he think that a whorehouse is any better than Castle Black??? It goes to show how stupid men can get when they think they are “protecting” us womenfolk from the dangers of the world. No thanks.

Tyrion telling Podrick not to stand up for him because he would end up dead! He is really the best one in the show.

Oh Ygritte, how could you! That was NOT how I was expecting that scene to go.

Ooo, Pyp suddenly appeared again! I was wondering where he went. I cannot for the life of me remember who are the rangers who returned from Craster’s Keep though. Were they Jon Snow’s friends from Season 1 too?
The last scene reminded me of the Battle of the Pelennor Fields in Return of the King, except on a smaller scale. Nice cliffhanger ending that is not really a cliffhanger too.
